Malik Mos High is from Philadelphia, PA and gained attention from Hip-Hop magazines after his first official single "Meditation" released last year.

His latest single "Thinking About You" released yesterday (10 Oct 2021) is his second this year following "Crown" from Feb.

Em-Cee [2021] - Honey Coated Hip-Hop [Mo' Vintage Records] (Full Album)

Em-Cee aka Miss Cherokee tripped a few up with the reissue of her 2000 album "To The Streets" under the moniker Miss Cherokee a week or so ago (24 Sep 2021).  There was obviously 'method in the madness' as it was probably a teaser/taster/reminder of her older material prior to the release of her latest album "Honey Coated Hip-Hop" which apparently is old material some previously unreleased. At least five tracks were released on a 12" EP "Superstar The E.P." in 2004!). "Don't Come Around" and "Us Alone" were released on a 12" in 2005. "Better Days" in 2002

Don't let the title put you off as there's no hip-hop within hearing distance so I don't know why it's in the title as hip-hoppers will be disappointed and it might be off-putting to other potential listeners who don't like hip-hop?

It starts off promisingly with "Don't Stop" which samples A Taste Of Honey's "Rescue Me" from 1980 which she posted on her Soundcloud page in 2012 which might be an indication as to how old some of these tracks are?

Some of the standout tracks include "Don't Stop", "Ain't Gonna Cry", "Us Alone" (which I'm sure towards the end of (3:31) I can detect hints of Keni Burke's "Rising To The Top" ... or perhaps it just has a similar feel?) and "Ready 4 Your Love" but they are really just the tip of the iceberg as there's not a bad track on the whole album. Very enjoyable!

I 'wonder' if her real name is Clarissa Walters as that name appears on a lot of the writing credits?

Mykal Kilgore [2021] - The Man In The Barbershop [Affective Music]

Although Mykal Kilgore released his debut album "A Man Born Black" in 2019 he hasn't released any material since, mainly because he works in musical theatre having performed on Broadway in Motown the Musical, Hair and The Book Of Mormon and may others off Broadway.

He was born in Florida and moved to Nashville to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter before moving to New York to appear on Broadway.

Prior to going solo he was with a group named Slow Knights who released two albums in 2013 and 2015 and around four singles.

His new single "The Man In The Barbershop" was released a month ago on 10 Sep 2021.

Jasmine Bailey [2021] - Cherry Pie [Crew]

Jasmine Bailey is a brown-eyed neo soul/jazz singer/songwriter and visual artist from San Diego, CA. 

She debuted in 2017 with a six track EP "Wild Woman", followed up with a single in 2019 "Remedies". Her third single "Cherry Pie" was released on 8 Oct 2021.

Black Ocean [2021] - Cigarette [Self Released]

This is an unusual and dark tune, but has some sort of strange appeal. I can find nothing about the artist, Black Ocean, but it's bundled with others by a Korean artist and although the title is "Cigarette" the lyrics are sung in some non-English language, so who knows? Something a little different!

Ira Raibon [2021] - Shake It Off (Live) / You’re My Dream (Live) [Epsilon #EPS007]

DJ Camembert, aka Yann Vatiste's, label Epsilon has just released two sides by Ira Raibon "Shake It Off (Live)" / "You’re My Dream (Live)" which were originally recorded live in 1978 at Beach Bum Burt’s in Redondo Beach, California July 23rd, 1978 with a group he was part of called Sweetalk and released on an album titled "Live!".

They are available digitally (£2) and on limited edition (300) vinyl (£17.50) from Epsilon website.

Ady Crampton recently (5 Oct 2021) interviewed Ira Raibon and posted the interview on his Shinyl.co.uk website. During the interview Ady plays many of Ida's early releases. Well worth a listen, a very talented and interesting guy!  Whilst your there check out the many other interviews Ady's done.

He was a member of The General Soul Assembly and Fabulous Souls (previously King George & The Fabulous Souls) and there's a great track on the interview of Ida playing sax on an instrumental of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" originally released as a flip side to "Take Me" in 1968 which was one of the first records used in hip-hop and the intro sounds similar to Miles Davis "So What" before it turns into a psychedelic funk tune.

I've also included a studio version of "Shake It Up".
