KB Soul [2021] - You Don't Know How Much I Love You [Self Released]

KB Soul, who I am guessing from the writer credits is Keturiah Baker, released "You Don't Know How Much I Love You" on 12 Aug 2021. I've had it in the pending list for a while as the vocals sound a bit 'off' to my ears, however it seems to be getting some plays, but I find it a bit jarring in places (e.g. at 3:04). I'll let you decide. It's a shame as the vocals on her other tracks are fine, but unfortunately the songs aren't as good.

She appears to have released three or four singles since 2020. There is another batch on the YouTube topic which I'm pretty sure isn't the same artist. Apple has a four track EP from an artist with the same name called "The Total Package " dating back to 2007 but I don't know whether or not it's the same artist. I suspect not as the publishing credits are Catherine Beverly Rhodes.

Sydney RaneƩ [2021] - One Night Only [Self Released]

L.A. native Sydney RaneĆ©'s latest single "One Night Only" is due for release on Friday (27 Aug 2021). It's another that she has written and produced herself that she states "instantly takes you back to one of her favourite eras the 90’s with elements of Ghost Town DJ’s with a kick of Whitney. It's packed with a driving beat, danceable vibe, flirty lyrics and Sydney’s dreamy vocals, that is guaranteed to get you grooving".

The KTNA [2021] - Summer Never Dies [Self Released]

Released today (25 Aug 2021) by twin sisters Hope and Millie Katana from Manchester (born in Kenya) who go by the name of  The KTNA (presumably pronounce like their surname?)

There is no video available for the new single "Summer Never Dies" yet so I've added a 30 minute live performance from last year where they perform songs from their debut EP "Life Under Siege".

They released three singles in 2019, followed by the EP and collaboration with sagan in 2020 and the current single is their second this year.

I guess this will ruffle feathers! Is this soul music? I'll let you decide, but for me it's a sound that borders/overlaps indie pop music like so many of this ilk, it's becoming a very fine line!

Jodie [2021] - Treat Me Better / Pushover [Original Gravity #OGR811]

Another singer who released a blue-eyed neo Northern Soul single only last month is Jodie (Richardson) from London, who follows up "Pushover" with a song called "Treat Me Better" to be released on Friday (27 Aug 2021).  Both tracks are to be released on limited edition 7" vinyl (250) by Original Gravity.

I've just checked the Original Gravity website and it is stating 'out of stock' so whether that's is because it's not in stock yet, or they have already sold out on pre-order, I don't know, but presumably some will have gone to dealers who you may find one from?

"Treat Me Better" has a long building intro before it kicks into a bit of a stomper after about a minute, so don't give up on it too early!

"Pushover" is quite heavily inspired by Melba Moore's "The Magic Touch".

Jodie wrote both songs during lockdown the second being based on personal experience and observations after first going to pubs and bars.

Nick Corbin [2021] - Piggyback [Big-AC Records]

Barely a month since his last release, with "Deeper In Love" on 16 Jul, Big-AC gaffer Nick Corbin releases a follow up "Piggyback" on Friday (27 Aug 2021). I guess you could call it Blue-Eyed neo Northern Soul. It has a bit of a feel of The Style Council so it isn't surprising that Mick Talbot is on keyboards. In fact Nick's vocals sound similar to Paul Weller on this track.

He states that he took inspiration for this tune from Issac Hayes and  Lonnie Liston Smith. I'm afraid I don't hear it myself.

It will be available on a Big-AC vinyl 45 later in the year with "Deeper In Love" on the flip. I've included it again to remind you what it sounds like along with an acoustic version of "Piggyback" which he posted on YT last week

Nick has some live dates lined up in September 9th Manchester Gullivers, 10th Glasgow Admiral Bar, 11th Stockton Green Room, 17th Birmingham Dead Wax Digbeth, 18th Leicester Duffy's Bar, 24th Brighton Hope & Ruin and 29th London O2 Islington.
