TallyOhhh [2021] - 420 Foreplay [Self Released] (Full EP)

I think this is only the second release from TallyOhh (Talia C. Oliver) from Atlanta, she released a two track EP at Christmas. Her new five track EP '420 Foreplay' was released 20 Apr 2021.

The best track is 'Give It To Me' which uses samples from Teddy P's 'Love T.K.O.'. There are another two tracks worth a listen 'Smoking Down' and 'Good Time' which I'm pretty sure samples something (probably from the 80s/90s) which I can't place at the moment.

Syleena Johnson [2021] - The Making Of A Woman (The Deluxe Edition) [Entertainment One Music]

There has been an abundance of releases in the last few days, with the most new albums I've seen released in a week so far this year. One that has been quite heavily promoted that was released yesterday, is the reissue of Syleena Johnson's The Makings Of A Woman which was released in Jan 2020 but owing to Covid didn't do as well as expected due to lack of promotion so a new deluxe edition with a couple of extra tracks has been released.

Sezou Feat. Hoxton High [2021] - First Player [Sezen Sahin]

The new single from 19 year old Sezou who is based in Hamburg but has Turkish origins. It was released on 3 Apr 2021 and appears to be about her third single since Dec last year, which I assume was her debut.

It has a similar sound as that coming out of London at present from artists like Hari, JGrrey and Tyson i.e. ambient beats and haunting, breathy vocals.

As she seems to be such a new artist there doesn't appear to be much info about her available.

Franck Roger [2021] - 44 [Real Tone Records] (Full Album)

New album '44' from Paris producer Franck Roger. It's a mixture of beats, disco and 'clubby' tunes but has a couple of good, soulful tracks such as the two featuring Gladys Gamble, 'The Reason' and 'Pars'. The pick of the others include 'Les Yeux Fermes' and instrumental 'La Nuit'.

Mark Knight & Beverley Knight Feat. London Community Gospel Choir [2021] - Everything's Gonna Be Alright [Toolroom]

Well this was a pleasant surprise. Premiered today (23 Apr 2021) but not available to buy until 7 May 2021 is a gospel flavoured dance track from DJ Mark Knight, Wolverhampton's Beverly Knight MBE (not related as far as I know) and featuring London Community Gospel Choir.

It's pretty instant and very commercial, so expect to hear this on national radio and played to death until we're all sick of hearing it!

Diquan Julius [2021] - Soap Box [Self Released]

Diquan Julius released a new single 'In My Feelings' on 23 Mar 2021 which alerted me to the previous single 'Soap Box' (released 27 Feb 2021) which I'd overlooked and which is far superior to his latest offering which is the run-of-the-mill R&B fare. In contrast, 'Soap Box' is a super soulful deep neo soul ballad featuring co-writer Shedonnah White.

Diquan Julius is a country boy from South Carolina who sang gospel and later moved to Washinton D.C. His first secular single was an afrobeat track in 2019 (which is not good!), followed by LaLa Land in Dec 2020, which isn't too bad.

Joyce Wrice [2021] - Overgrown [Self Released]

I've already posted Joyce Wrice's debut album 'Overgrown' released 19 Mar 2021 and the track that has been getting a lot of attention in the UK is Chandler. In the last week she has posted a video of the title track which might suggest that it will be the next single following 'So Sick' and 'On One' both released as singles before the album came out. So let's see her in all her glory performing it in a garden in L.A. on the piano.
