Raheem DeVaughn has just released (26 Mar 2021) a retro 70s video of a song he recorded last year to celebrate Marvin Gaye on his album 'What A Time To Be In Love' and also released as a single last Aug. It would have been Gaye's 82nd birthday on 2 Apr 2021.

He states in the video notes that he aims to release an entire album dedicated to Gaye later this year.

Cha Wa [2021] - My People [Single Lock Records] (Full Album)

I don't normally post funk material but I came across the new album from Cha Wa (released 2 Apr 2021) and have to say it is one on the most authentic neo funk bands I have heard. There are so many who try to emulate the 70s sound, and to my ear normally fail, but these guys have certainly captured it.  Their last album 'Spyboy', released in 2018, was nominated for a Grammy.

They were formed in 2014 in New Orleans and describe themselves as a Mardi Gras Indian funk band. This is their third album.

The most soulful tracks are 'Bow Down' and 'Love In Your Heart' which features vocals from Anjelika Jelly Joseph and 'Masters Of War' featuring Alvin Youngblood Hart.

Tk Soul [2021] - I'm Gonna Win [Soulful Records]

A new album from Tk Soul 'Strawberry Jamz' was released  1 Apr 2021.  Most of the album is too 'synthetic' sounding with overuse of vocoder (which seems to be prevalent at present), but the featured track is easily the standout track with a soulful southern soul sytle ballad/stepper.

TK is Terence Kimble who played keyboards with the group H-Town and later worked with Willie Clayton.

Benetra Calhoun from Greenwood, South Carolina is an gospel singer, actress and producer, known for US TV series My 3 Sons (2014) where she got the name Benetra The Boss Lady.

She's actually released three singles already in April. 'Make Me Come And Get It' (southern soul) and 'Last Night' (ballad) on 1st and another 'Just Love Feat. Jakobi Lowri on 3rd which has a rap in it.
