To celebrate a year since the release of the album of the same name, Colemine is taking pre-orders for the latest Monophonics single 'It's Only Us' due on 23 Apr 2021.

With a timeless sound that blends heavy soul and psych-rock, Monophonics (led by singer Kelly Finnigan) have built a reputation over the past decade as one of the best live bands in the US. 'It’s Only Us' is their fifth album since their debut in 2007.

The Realm, Atjazz, Kelli Sae [2021] - On The Road [Foliage]

'On The Road' is a recreation of Incognito's track from their 2001 'Life Stranger Than Fiction album. It's collaboration between The Realm (Oli Lazarus & Toni Economideshe), AtJazz (Marin Iveson UK DJ/producer/remixer since the mid 90s) & Kelli Sae (yet again with at least the third single she's appeared on this year already) who recorded the original version whilst a member of Incognito. 

They worked with musicians including Matt Cooper (rhodes & piano), Mike Patto (synths), Sid Gauld (trumpet), Jamie Anderson (sax) and Trevor Mires (trombone).

Probably best described as acid jazz.

Valerie June Feat. Carla Thomas [2021] - Call Me A Fool [Fantasy]

A neo deep soul ballad from Valerie June featuring Carla Thomas is a track from her latest album 'The Moon And Stars: Prescriptions For Dreamers' released 12 Mar 2021.

She is from Memphis, TN and this is her fifth album since her 2006 debut. The album is a real mixed bag and not for soul purists as it mixes folk, blues, country, gospel, blue grass, gospel, soul, meditation, psychedelia and astral .. with titles such as 'Stardust Scattering' and 'Stay Meditation' and 'African Proverb' ..  it's quite bizzare really but there are a few tracks that have grown on me after a few listens (e.g. 'Two Roads' and the featured track)!

This track billed as featuring Carla Thomas who only appears in a spoken intro lasting a whole six seconds! It is reminiscent of Etta James' 'I'd Rather Go Blind'.

Nathan Mitchell Feat. Tony Terry [2021] - Affirmation [ENM Music Group]

A single from smooth jazz artist Nathan Mitchell featuring Tony Terry was released 12 Feb 2021. He has subsequently released another one on called 'Nostalgia' featuring Elan Trotman on 4 Mar 2021.

Coincidentally, Nathan Mitchell collaborated with Doobie Powell (who's album I've just posted) on a cover of Stevie Wonder's 'Do I Do' on his last album 'Presents: Donny, Duke, and Wonder' released at the end of last year (Oct 2021). Will Downing, Frank McComb and Najee, amongst others, also appeared on the album. 'Do I Do' was also released as a single.
