Andy Tee (aka Andrea Tonici) rework L.T.D.'s
'Holding On (When Love Is Gone)' from 1978, and have released a House version of it on their Groove Culture label under
the guise of 'Nu Port 62' on 4 Feb 2021.
Those guys at Glitterbox have come up with eight different mixes of Alaia & Gallo's 2016 cover of this Bill Wither's song covered by quite a few
others.
I think the first version I heard was Della Reece's, but it has
been covered by artists such as Gladys Knight & The Pips, Three
Degrees and Tamiko Jones in the 70s and many others since, with Jose James
recording it in 2018 on a Bill Withers tribute album 'Lean On Me'
The best 'vintage' version being from Creative Source, who released it as
a single and also as an
11:45 minute version
on their self-titled debut album on Sussex in 1973. The 'real deal' and
definitive version in my book! I reckon some 'imaginative' DJ could give
the 7" version spins on Northern Soul dancefloors in these more
enlightened times?
I've selected what I consider the best mix, The Dr Packer Remix, some of
the other mixes are more targetted at house clubs.
This has gone straight in at #1 on Traxsource Top 100. Another Reel People
production featuring Kelli Sae with a Michael Gray extended and
instrumental mix.
It's retro disco track that tends to get termed 'soulful house' that does well on UK Soul chart.
So what this? Shelley FKA DRAM is hip-hop artist D.R.A.M. reinventing
himself (FKA is formerly known as). This is his new 'soulful' R&B single released 26 Feb 2021.
His real name is Shelley Massenburg-Smith and he's from Hampton,VA. He had a top 10 hit with 'Broccoli' featuring Lil Yachty in 2016, which is completely different to this outing.
Leon Bridges collaborates with Keitre Young for a new gospel flavoured
single 'Like A Ship' released 28 Feb 2021.
In fact it is a cover of a gospel song recorded in 1971 by Chicago activist Pastor T.L. Barrett & The Youth for Christ Choir on an album 'Like A Ship... (Without A Sail)' released on Mt. Zion . The album has been reissued several times, by Light In The Attic in 2010, 2013 & 2017, Numero Group in 2017 & 2018.
Kayne West sampled it on his 2016 album 'Life Of Pablo', not that this will interest soul people!

A #1 adult R&B chart tune from Toni Braxton featuring H.E.R. from her 'Spell
My Name' album released Aug 2020. This is her tenth studio album to
date since her eponymous debut in 1992, only this one (so far) and two others
have failed to go gold.
As far as I can tell, this rack wasn't released as a single.
A new solo single from Delicious (Kennedy) of the R&B group All-4-One (who had a world-wide #1 hit (#2 UK) with 'I Swear' in 1994) was released 14 Feb 2021. This is in a similar vein, a smooth love ballad.
Brownsuede are Lud Creary (guitar) and Doc Martin (lead vocals). They
released their debut eponymous EP produced by Otis Kane in 2020. The
top track is 'The One', but 'Keep On Pushin' is pretty good too!
