Mario Biondi [2021] - Dare [Beyond Srl] (Full Album)

I posted 'Canteloupe Island DJ Mme Remix)' from Mario Biondi last week just before the new album 'Dare' was released (as the only track available at the time), but now that the album has ben released (29 Jan 2021) here's a link to the full album.

The album celebrates his 50th birthday telling the story of his career from soul and jazz beginnings to new sounds of today, so it's a mixed bag featuring several covers of jazz classics, a version of Donny Hathaway's 'Someday We'll All Be Free' and Frank Sinatra's 'Strangers In The Night'.

Apart from perhaps 'Someday We'll All Be Free', the only real track of interest to pure soulies will be 'Lov-Lov-Love' and 'Paradise'.

Forthcoming 5th Feb 2021 on Expansion from a new album 'Messages from the Spirit... The Collective'. Probably best know for her wonderful record 'Got To Get Away' from her 1982 album 'The Music'. I remember first hearing it played by Billy Davidson guesting on Steve Aggasild's soul radio show in the 80s and being blown away.

You can listen to an interview with her on Richard Martezzi's Soul Life Solar radio show (29 Jan 2021) on Mixcloud. The interview starts at 1:13:00 to 1:37:05 and the new single follows. The interview is also preceded by a couple of her earlier tracks: 'It's A Pleasure' 1981 and a track from her 2013 Expansion album (Messages From The Heart) 'Your Love Is On Fire' and before that a track that she wrote for Patrice Rushen 'Look Up'.

Kea [2021] - Holla If You Hear Me (Feat. Giveton Gelin) [Self Released]

An independent release from Kea (Michaels) that has come from nowhere and into UK Soul chart today at #12.  It was released last Nov (13 Nov 2020).  A classy single with heavy jazz influences, as you would expect from George Benson's daughter!

Her debut single 'iLove You' was released in 2017 (28 July). I've included a few of her previous releases below.

Sidibe [2021] - Breathwork [Self Released]

A new artist to me although she seems to have been around since 2014, and in 2016 Prince selected 'I'm Only Dreaming' from her EP 'You Got The Luck' as his 'Purple Pick Of The Week' playlist, but I personally think 'Maybe' is a better track.

She has a distinctive and unique style which is difficult to categorise, soulful but not 'really' soul in the true sense. She is certainly a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice, apparently she has a 5 octave range.

There I was thinking about how she reminded me a bit of Sade and lo and behold I found an acoustic cover of 'Love Is Stronger Than Pride'.

Hot off the press, released yesterday (31 Jan 2021). is a new self-released single from Chicago R&B/Soul songstress J. Daphaney called 'Love Star'.  It will be her fourth single in a year and the first that didn't appear on her debut album 'LOVE, LIFE And R&B'.
